Student-Directed Functional Assessment Interview Form (SDFAI)

The Student-Directed Functional Assessment Interview Form (SDFAI; O’Neill et al., 1997) is a structured interview conducted with the student in an effort to understand the student’s perspective on the circumstances related to a specific behavior of concern.

Overview

The interview takes 20 to 40 minutes and is conducted by an adult who has a positive relationship with the student. The interview results in summary statements outlining the antecedents, consequences, and function of behavior(s).
